Furniture of any room in your home is
a huge investment! Your luxury furniture gets used a lot and it is very
essential to take care of furniture to maintain its value and to make it
last longer.
Regular Care of Luxury Furniture
Dusting: Use a soft cloth to dust. If you are using a
slightly damp rag, then you should also wipe with a dry cloth which will
keep the water from leaving streaks on the surface as it dries.
Cleaning: To clean, use a wet cloth or sponge. Any
kind of non-abrasive soap will work. If you need a little more cleaning
power for some stains, use a soft rag slightly damp with warm water and
a little detergent. For stubborn marks, try using window cleaner on a
cloth.
Leather
If it is leather furniture, you should wipe it down with a rag and use
leather treatment regularly.
Caring for Furniture Upholstery
To keep it clean, periodically vacuum dry or brush lightly to remove
dust and soil from between the fibers and seams. Remove stains on your
upholstery by following cleaning code.
Soapstone, Marble and Granite Care
You can clean your soapstone with any mild, non-abrasive household
cleanser that you like to use. Marble should only be cleaned with mild
soap and water and you should immediately wipe dry with a soft cloth.
Marble stains easily and so be sure to wipe up spills quickly. Granite
is especially easy to care for. Just clean with mild dish washing liquid
and warm water and then wipe granite with a dry, soft, clean cloth.
Avoid using anything acidic or abrasive on marble and granite.
Some Simple Precautions
- Try not to place your wood furniture too closely to a heater vent
as the dry heat could cause the wood to split or warp.
- Another way to revive your tired furniture is to get them
re-upholstered.
- Yet another way is to revive tired looking furniture is to simply
move your furniture around or switch the rooms that your furniture
are in. For example, take the armchair in your living room and move
it to the bedroom. Take the unused chair in the spare room and move
it to the living room and so on.
- Avoiding surface scratches. There are some preventive measures
you can take to avoid finish damage-of course you cannot avoid
accidents in the long course of time.
- Always be aware that runners, place mats, and basically anything
that covers part of a top will leave behind a lighter mark as the
wood around it darkens with exposure to light. Be sure to move these
top coverings around so that the wood will darken evenly.
Simple changes and precautions like this will help you cycle your
furniture from heavy use areas to light use areas and this will help
maintain their life, and will help you enjoy them as if they were new.
